M.A, Professional Writing UMASS Dartmouth
Born in a small suburb of Cleveland, OH, I spent my childhood reading a lot of books. I went to Bowling Green State University (also in Ohio) and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a concentration in Education in 1981. I moved to Fall River, MA, in 1988 to take a position teaching music at a middle school there. I eventually decided to get out of the music education field and went to University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth to change careers. I graduated with a Master of Arts in Professional Writing in 2001.While working on my Master's degree, I worked with Spinner Publications in New Bedford to produce an illustrated, abridged version of Moby Dick. I am currently proofreading their new book, a Picture History of New Bedford, vol. 2. I taught freshman and sophomore writing at UMass Dartmouth until 2007, when I started teaching at Bristol Community College in Fall River and at pilipili in Bristol, R.I. I teach WTNG 102: Expository Writing and WTNG 200: Critical Writing for the Social Sciences/Humanities. My outside interests include playing flute with the Swansea Community Musicians Concert Band; I’ve been a member of the group since 1989. I also love horses and have been taking riding lessons for many years. My hobbies include crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and “adult” coloring books, and reading.
